Are we talking about one "event", or two?
The appearance of God at work in human affairs? This was evident to the prophets before Jesus. The destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple? That did occur within ~40 years.
The visible resurrection of the dead, trumpets & gaping graves & the whole bit? Paul expected that within his lifetime, and was mistaken (unless we're talking about the ongoing processes of reincarnation and "karma.") Some new manifestation beyond God's recurrent (& somehow always surprising) upsetting of everything we'd thought we understood?
