One Year Ago Today

When you think about it, it really is kinda neat we've been around this long together.

Forrest's question prompted me to check out what we were up to one year ago today. And we were into the gospel of John, and praying bodhisattvas that looked like glowing green ETs!

friendly skripture study: John 20: 30-31

And it all started with someone looking into how Jesus would have appeared in Japanese mode...

There's a book (_The Jesus Sutras_?)that takes up the history of EARLY early Christian missionary activity in Asia. The author had heard of and visited a virtually forgotten a very old Christian temple, on the Buddhist model, in China, briefly translated some excerpts of what sounded like pretty standard Pauline ideas with Oriental flavor. Evidently the area around Afghanistan & Tibet was, early on, a flourishing trade civilization, where a myriad local Christian communities co-existed outside the reach and interest of the Roman Church.

Buddhism was still taking form around this time. The Bodisattva of compassion was a man then, but soon underwent a sex change into Kwan Yin, as that concept was influenced by the image of Mary.

Nothing there of deep significance, but how these notions get around!
