What IS that picture???
I'm glad this isn't actually the end of the gospel of John, because I really like chapter 21, which I guess is an add-on. About this passage, the NAB says ...
These verses are clearly a conclusion to the gospel and express its purpose. While many manuscripts read "come to believe," possibly implying a missionary purpose for John's gospel, a small number of quite early ones read "continue to believe," suggesting that the audience consists of Christians whose faith is to be deepened by the book.
Looks like someone praying to me.
Hi Twyla. It's of someone praying? There must be something wrong with me - no matter how I look at the pic, it looks like an anemic ET :-)
Its a statue of a Buddhist praying actually. I was looking for pics of Jesus in ways that weren't Western. I had thought "jizo" was Japanese for Jesus so plugged it into my search engine and found the picture at:
Jizo
However the site is a Buddhist site not a Christian one. Turns out he's actually one of the bodhisattvas whose full name is/was Ksitgarbha.
I'd apologize -- but I like the picture -- so I won't.
I thought it was a fetus! Was expecting the post to be about abortion.
I was thinking it looked like a very happy fetus...
No need to apologize, David, I like non-western art ... I just can't seem to "see" what you guys are seeing (except for Paul - it does look also like a greenish fetus) ... yikes - this probably says something about my eye disease or worse, my brain :-)
