"Yet what should I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? But it was for this purpose that I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name."
... I don't think Jesus meant here that his purpose in coming here was to die but rather, his purpose was to glorify God. I read somewhere that the meaning of the expression "to glorigy" is "to reveal the hidden excellence and worth of ...". Jesus came here to show us what God is like, to reveal him to us. His death was the authentication of his message ... he held nothing back, so we would believe the truth.

So right! The Presbyterian catcheism: The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy him forever.
Not just presbyterians :-) ad majorem Dei gloriam is the Jesuit motto - for the greater glory of God.
Then there's the other sid eof the nickel: St Irenaeus (sp?): the glory of God is humanity fully alive.
And then for those of you who are Latin impaired: carpe diem: God is a goldfish.
Right.
So, I'm thinking... How do we glorify, reveal the hidden excellence and worth of God, holding nothing back? How do we demonstrate our 'humanity fully alive?'
Wisdom traditions will return us time and time again to tell us and show us that 'the way' is through compassion and love.
